COERR Mae Sot and Mae Hong Son Organized “Awareness Raising in Waste Separation” for Children and Youth

   COERR has been implementing the environmental conservation and education including waste management in Ban Mae La, Tha Song Yang District, Tak Province, with the objectives to have the participation and cooperation of community people. Therefore COERR supported the meeting of the waste management committee and the waste management working group in their effort to mobilize the community-based waste management to the effective way for the healthy environment and the understanding of the community. COERR also continued to promote the understanding among staff, volunteers and community in waste reduction through separating and recycling approach.

   COERR also deemed it necessary to start the awareness raising in environment conservation and waste separation training for children and youth to promote correct understanding and behavior in solving environmental problems in communities in the long run.

   “The Waste Separating and Recyling Training among children and youth ” was organized at Ban Mae La during March 24-27, 2020, in which 109 children and youth, consisting of 69 female and 40 male, participating.

   For the capacity building of staff and volunteers working in waste management at Ban Mae La, COERR organized At Source Waste Separation using 3R Approach on February 18, and March 13, 2020. There were 26 volunteers: 22 female and 4 male attending this training which would enable them to share such learning with the community and especially, the household in the “Eco House” program.

   At-source waste separation training for interested adult displaced persons was held in Ban Mae La for interested persons numbering 90, consisting of 70 female and 20 male participants, was organized during March 24-25, 2020. In addition to environmental conservation and 3R approach for waste reduction, and separation as general waste (residual waste that cannot be recycled), compostable waste, recyclable waste and hazardous waste; and making of recyclable objects like used plastic bottles, become a new invention as artificial flowers and plastic chairs. Trainees were challenged to further create their used plastic bottles for new invention at their choice.
